Supremely Functional Kitchen of the Week

Houzz has a new Kitchen of the Week that deserves to be called out – one of the most functional kitchens I’ve ever seen.  For someone who loves to cook for company, and who doesn’t need people underfoot while she’s preparing food, this layout is hard to beat.

A large island that also functions as a bar is a great way to share the kitchen space – it keeps the chef company, and also separated. This one has a table attached at one end that makes a perfect place to share meals also.

The homeowners are a Canadian couple with 3 teenage sons – you can imagine trying to keep them in line during mealtimes, but this works. There’s a separate drinks station outside of the working area, so there’s never any need to come inside when Mom’s cooking.

The design was for function based on how the cook actually works, but the touches add warmth to make a great gathering place- the use of wood, the layered grays, the herringbone marble backsplash (love that!), and the orange chairs.
